Finned tubes, on the other hand, are really popular for HRSG (Heat Recovery Steam Generator) applications.
Typically, the feed water can be heated to a temperature that’s roughly 20 to 30 degrees Celsius below the boiler’s saturation temperature.

Application
In most commercial and industrial boiler setups, when the boiler’s running, about 10 to 20% of the fuel’s heating value gets released into the air along with the stack gases. That’s where stack economizers come in—they’re built to get back a good chunk of that energy that would otherwise be lost with the stack gases. This helps boost the boiler system’s efficiency by a lot.

• Gas-side Pressure Drop. Added back-pressure on the boiler stack affects the combustion air fan throughput capability. The economizer and combustion air fan(s) must be sized properly in order to assure a suitable system operation and capacity.
• Feedwater Temperature. The feedwater to the economizer must be deaerated and the temperature setpoint minimally at 220oF to prevent tube corrosion.
